Question 1

Do I need any experience?

Accepted Answer

None at all. TMBG starts at the very beginning — even if you've never picked up a bass. Roy conducts the early examples slowly, so first-time players are completely welcome.

Question 2

I've played for years — is this still for me?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Intermediate and even longtime players use TMBG to refine technique and fill gaps. Blues bassist Lane Baldwin, with 40 years on the instrument, says he's still learning from Roy.

Question 3

How much do I need to practice?

Accepted Answer

As little as 15 minutes a day. Roy recommends serious students master one lesson a month — about 20 months to work through the entire course.

Question 4

Do I need to read music?

Accepted Answer

No — Roy teaches you to read as you go. The real-time fretboard shows every note and fingering as he plays it, so you always know exactly where to put your fingers.

Question 5

What is the play-along band?

Accepted Answer

The TMBG Band — a first-rate group of Nashville session musicians who play with Roy inside the Chateau Groove studio. There are over 100 play-along opportunities, each at slow and fast tempos, with and without Roy, so you can step into the bassist's seat.

Question 6

Is there a guarantee?

Accepted Answer

Yes — a 90-day money-back guarantee. Try the entire course risk-free.

Question 7

Can Roy really critique my playing?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can submit a video of your performance of select exercises, and Roy personally critiques it and responds to you.
